Inside S J Gosney & Sons butcher's shop, traditional counter and mirror sign

Heritage Butchers, Norfolk

Three generations, one small green door.

We are a family butchers on the banks of the Bure. Our shop is not big. Our list of suppliers is not long. That is on purpose. We would rather know every farm, every wheel of cheese, every loaf on the shelf than stock ten times what we do.

"If we wouldn't feed it to our own family, it doesn't cross the counter."

  1. 1948

The first Gosney opens a small shop on Wroxham Road, cycling meat to the villages by basket.

  2. 1976

The sons join the family trade — two pairs of hands at the block, one set of standards.

  3. 2001

The West Snoring shop as it stands today: green tiles, oak counter, sawdust on the floor.

  4. Today

Three generations later — same street, same knives, same standards.

Four things we will not compromise on.

01
Locally Sourced

Livestock from Norfolk farms we know by name. Distances measured in miles, not motorways.

02
Traditional Butchery

Whole-carcass, on the block, by hand. The skill is in what you don't need to hide.

03
Exceptional Quality

Aged the time it takes. Cut the way you'll cook it. Never a shortcut for a shelf.

04
Friendly Service

Advice, recipes, a wrap of parsley — all included. Come in, we'll put the kettle on.
